Curriculum
At Bar Hill Preschool, we follow the Development Matters guidance as the foundation of our curriculum. In addition, we have our own curricular goals, designed to meet the needs of our current children and help them develop key skills for starting school.
Our Curriculum Goals
By the end of their preschool year, children will:
- Understand and express how they are feeling.
- Take turns in small groups, share resources fairly, and show kindness to others.
- Sit and listen to a short story as part of a group, beginning to make comments with the help of props.
- Develop confidence in their own voice and expressing their thoughts.
- Be independent in toileting and self-care skills.
- Enjoy physical activities and understand how to keep themselves safe both in the setting and the community.
- Recognise and begin writing some letters in their name.
- Understand that print carries meaning and can be used for different purposes.
- Develop a strong understanding of numbers and early mathematical concepts.
- Explore the world and understand change, such as the lifecycle of plants and animals or how materials behave in different conditions.
- Feel connected to and involved in their local community.
- Use their imagination to create and express thoughts and feelings through building, mark-making, and movement.
Our curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity, confidence, and independence, preparing children for their next steps in learning.
